Feeling overwhelmed by CrossFit?

The good news is, you're not alone.

At Onyx Tribe CrossFit, we know that starting or continuing your CrossFit journey can sometimes feel overwhelming. Whether you're new to the gym or just a few months in, it's completely normal to feel like you're drowning in unfamiliar terminology, complex movements, and a room full of people who seem to be lifting cars while you're holding a plastic pipe. This blog post is here to remind you: you're not alone.

CrossFit can be overwhelming. Know that you're never alone in this journey!

🧠 The Language Barrier!

First off, let’s talk terminology. EMOMs, AMRAPs, T2B, HSPU, WODs… it can feel like learning a new language. And in a way, it is. But here’s the thing: no one is born knowing this stuff. Everyone had to learn it. So if you’re confused, ask questions. Your coaches (and fellow tribe!) are there to help. And trust us, every athlete in the room remembers what it felt like to be new.

🏋️‍♀️ The Movement Maze

Then there’s the movements. Olympic lifts, gymnastics, kettlebells, rowing, wall balls.. it can be a lot. And it’s okay if it doesn’t click right away. Progress in CrossFit (like anything in life!) isn’t linear. Some things will come quickly. Others might take months, or even years. And that’s okay.

Take Jeffrey Adler, the 2023 CrossFit Games champion. It took him two years to master double unders! So if you’re still whipping yourself with the rope, you’re in good company.

👀 The Comparison Trap

Now let’s talk about the elephant in the room: comparison. It’s easy to look around and think, “Why am I the only one scaling?” or “Why am I still using a training bar while everyone else is throwing around big weights?”

But here’s the truth: everyone starts somewhere. And everyone’s journey is different.

Some people get double unders in 10 minutes. Others take a year. Some people walk in with a gymnastics background. Others have never done a pull-up in their life. Your path is yours, and that’s what makes it so special.

💛 Final Thoughts

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember this:

  • You’re not alone.

  • You’re not behind.

  • You’re exactly where you need to be.

Keep showing up. Keep asking questions. Keep celebrating the small wins, because they add up, and you'll look back in the months and years to come and realise how much you have achieved!

CrossFit isn’t about being the best in the room. It’s about being better than yesterday.

It's about being your best self.
